Le Corbusier’s Sainte Marie de La Tourette

Sainte Marie de La Tourette was architect Le Corbusier’s final building. Located in Eveux-sur-Arbresle, near Lyon in France it was completed in 1961, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The building is still a functioning Monastery for the Dominican Order. Visits are by booked guided tours, I’m cursing myself for my extremely poor French but still very glad to visit. The building is stunning, light and bright with beautiful views, in contrast the main chapel is dark and brutalist to the extreme.
