Miffy turns 70 exhibition at Leeds City Museum

If you don’t love Miffy and her friends, then you must have a very black heart indeed.

This loveable character made of bright coloured shapes and simple lines was created in 1955 by the young artist Dick Bruna. In her native Netherlands, she is called Nijntje, but she became Miffy when the early books were first translated into English, and now that is how she is known internationally.

To help celebrate the 70th birthday of Miffy, Leeds Museums and Galleries put together an exhibition that helped tell the story of her creation and development.

It also examines Miffy ephemera, showcases her appearances in TV and other forms of media, and they created an area where the visitor could enter the world of Miffy.
